What are you lot using now then? None of us ever get a direct answer.

We have all been sympathetic to family and then illness etc. but maybe if it was a serious project someone should of been recruited.

I think most people here feel so let down they would not buy now anyway.

such a shame.

I'm not buying a mac just to keep up, can't afford to anyway.

And WHAT does this mean????

Style Master

Style Master is the leading cross platform CSS developments software, with tens of thousands of users around the world. It's the oldest, and yet MOST FREQUENTLY UPDATED CSS development tool on either platform. Version 5 for the Mac OS was released in May 2009.

It may be the oldest but "most frequently updated" is pure fantasy--if not something else

Yes, that's why they call it "VAPORware".

I believe this website is on autopilot, and has been since before Christmas 2009. John hasn't made a post in 4 months, and he hasn't posted a blog entry in almost 9 months - the last entry is July, 2009.

No, John's not dead... in fact he's been rather busy: http://johnfallsopp.com/

says Westciv Support Forums at top

Sorry Guy,How could anyone possible know that. I thought the idea of a support forum was to post a problem and post the solution for everyone to benefit. There was no request for email support and no reply from anyone here.

I think it was pretty reasonable to assume that no help was given..hence my post--that was mostly made to see if someone would reply--and just a slight well deserved digg

I am glad I did not post the long version.

Hey Rockstar,

I sorted out this guys problem via email some time ago; for those of you interested, the solutions is:

To get this fixed you need to go down to the very bottom of the heading panel - you'll see there's a drop-down menu. Now, next to that is a little 'Add new preview document' button (it has a folder icon) - just hit that, and then input the URL of the website / exercise you're working on.

For example, if the site you're working on is 'file://C:/Program Files/Web/stylemaster.html', use that as the link for the preview document. Once the link has been added, just use the drop-down box to select that particular file, and it will give you the correct preview.

You other option is to remake the stylesheet by choosing the 'New from HTML document' option - this will link that stylesheet and the website together, and show the correct preview.

Cheers,
Guy

I am a beginner with all of this (stylmaster and web development). I downloaded stylemaster with all of my courses. I have just begun the introductory course on HTML, XHTML, and CSS. I have noticed that stylemaster uses style sheets. Are style sheets appropriate for the exercises in the first course? I tried putting some of the early exercises into the middle pane (design pane?), but the results of my code don't show up immediately below. The default information about headings, etc... remains in the middle, bottom pane.

I read all the negative comment in this thread, and then went off and checked out Stylizer and a number of other editors that fit my features list. Stylizer is very slick but I found the UI too much of a departure from the rest of the Windows-based tool set I've built up. Call me unfashionable, antiquated or ignorant, but it didn't fit my work process or environment. But Style Master did, even allowing for a slow development schedule. I also gave bonus points for WestCiv's obvious expertise and longevity. So with only a little trepidation, I just shelled out for Style Master.

I know a dead product when I see one, but this one is still fogging a mirror. I for one would like to offer my support and encouragement for John to press on and drag Style Master across the line. I see no reason why this product can't dominate its niche, given a little more focus, effort and good will.

Hey Bosun,

The best way to validate your site is to use the official W3C validator, though there are a number of other tools you could use as well.

The validator can be found at: http://validator.w3.org/ and it allows you to validate either by entering the web address or just copy / pasting the code.

It looks just as I want it to in Safari 4 and is just about passable in IE7.

Nothing validates, but I think I'll relax a bit before I get out the fine toothed comb.

What website should I use to validate xhtml?

John went away more than a month ago--for a week. he has been back for more than 3 weeks yet nothing to say???---I fear no news is bad news my friends and no need for Guy to reply FOR John again..

The fact [assumed] that this [ windows v5--if it ever happens] will be the last release of SM ever makes me wonder if John has not decided that it is not worth it--I mean who would buy a new css editor for $60 that was never ever going to be updated..

I would not---so imo John is basically doing a lot of work for nothing since the upgrade is free for most if not all users of 4.6----I assuming he is doing at least SOMETHING--

Does that SOMETHING have ANYTHING to do with SM V5 for Windows is another question left to the imagination..

I think it would have been a better idea to not release anything [mac os] till both versions [windows and mac] were stable.

I for one feel screwed---not because I feel I should not pay something for v5 but because my choice of OS has left me with much less than the "other users" who paid no less than me..

The question is--Is Style Master "DEAD" and should anyone contemplating purchasing 4.6 be made aware...

Without any comment from the developer I have to assume it is----RIP Style Master

Hey Art,

As I said, centring images in CSS can be tricky. However, in your case, there's a pretty simple fix: just wrap all of your image links in a 'p' element, give that 'p' a class of 'image-wrap', and in the CSS set '.image-wrap { text-align: center; }'. What will actually happen is that the links you have around your image will be centered, and they'll drag te images along with them.

As for the Tools question, can you be more descriptive - I don't really know what you're getting at.

As for the editors, yes, the padding portion of both of them is the same, but padding and margin are quite different (see http://lkamal.blogspot.com/2006/12/margin-vs-padding-css-properties.html for a quick explanation).

Guy,

Further thoughts. Using the Tools editor on the top left, it seems I can set text and images to left right and center, but only together. Why is that?

On the top right you can choose properties to edit. I see:

Margin and Padding Editor
Padding Editor

They seem the same to me. Am I wrong?

Thanks again,

Guy,

I have repaired the nav bar as you suggested and that works very well.

The CSS validation image is centered, but on many other pages images are not centered.

www.art-robb.co.uk/gtr.html Custom Made

I just can't figure out why these images all go left. it's probably some silly mistake on my part.

The CSS is core-styles.css

Otherwise I'm very pleased though changing from tables to divs is taking some time! Any suggestions gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Hey SVS,

There isn't a search box on the forum - the software that runs it is pretty old, and I haven't got around to updating it yet, sorry. Your best bet would be too google 'site:support.westciv.com' followed by your query.

As for tabs, SM on Windows will automatically open new documents on tabs, while SM for Macs will open them in a new window (personally less useful, but fits with the OS).

Hi firstly, I cannot seem to find a search box for this forum, am I missing something?

Secondly, is it possible to open multiple documents in tabs with SM?

Just giving this a bump- it's nearly 2010 now and I need to know, do I have to buy a Mac in order to carry on using SM?
I appreciate that the Windows version is tied to IE and MS has released IE7 and IE8 - to say nothing of Windows 7 - but they are at least "trying" to be standards compliant (in a kind of Microsoftie way).
I am one of those people who learned CSS with SM and am kind of attached to it, although I more and more hand code these days rather than fire up 4.6.
Carol

Hey Bosun,

It's verifying fine for me, and I wouldn't worry about the lang stuff, it's fine. The only thing I've noticed in your code is that all your 'li' elements have a 'p' around then, which isn't correct - just take out the extra 'p'.

As for images, the only image I can see on there is the CSS Validation image - which ones were you talking about?

Guy,

The website is up at www.art-robb.co.uk. The images are not centered and would look better if they were. Display: block margin-left:auto and margin-right:auto give me a vertical stack of thumbnails.

Also the index page www.art-robb.co.uk/index.html verifies except for:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

What am I doing wrong here? I think it has to do with the lang things.

Thanks again,
