Thanks for that Joey, the link worked fine.

It turns out the problem is that the paragraphs ('<p'>) inside the .description
still have a left margin and a text indent, which is causing them to be pushed over. It does actually happen in FF and Opera, it's just less noticeable.

The paragraphs are inheriting this margin from 'spice_style.css', line 14 and 15.

There's two easy fixes: the first is add a little bit off CSS like this to one of your CSS files:

.description p {
margin-left: 0;
text-indent: 0; }

That will remove the margin / indent from and paragraph inside the description.

The other way is to remove lines 13, 14 and 15 from 'spice_style.css', because you don't have any paragraphs anywhere else. If you're planning on adding more paragraphs later, I'd suggest going with number 1, above.

Hope that helps,
Guy

Just copy and paste the website address from the top of your browser into the text - for example, this thread's link is "http://support.westciv.com/topic.php?id=379".

What may be easier is just to copy and paste the code you're using into the text block here, which will save you linking. Just select all the code you're using and pop it in a post.

Cheers,

Newbie here, re: CSS 1 course (Spice Emporium):
Finished up with just 1 problem. The recipe page has a class "description."

This all-time favourite Thai curry can also be made with chicken, beef or tofu.

Serves 4

The type in this box should be centered left to right. It has extra space on left in IE7 but not in FF or Opera. The main style sheet has margin and padding set to 0px. Both my Style Sheet and html file were validated over at W3C. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi Cary,

Just a little edit. / itself refers to the current directory. ./ takes you to the root directory (but depending on how the server is configured, that may not be the root of the web site).

The "../" takes you up one level to the directory above the html which isn't always going to be the root.

I am having the same problem. I have tried "spice_emporium_site/style_sheets/spice_style.css" as you have done (seems the logical answer) but I can't create a pathway to the target stylesheet which is ultimately supposed to render my HTML document into something more lovely. But the file you are referring to is in a folder named "recipes" inside the root folder.

Underlining for emphasis is very common for printed material but a definite no-no for the Internet where underlining MEANS LINK. It is really sad to see it used here in a tutorial in an inappropriate way.

When one sees an underline, it attracts the mouse and when it get there it says "Fooled ya", Ha-Ha,you expected a link you dumb viewer. It is not nice to piss off your viewer with misleading structure.

Yes, the files will continue to be there at the beginning of each week - though you only need to download them once.

As above, I have checked again and there is definitely nothing wrong with them, and I was able to open the PDFs no problem. They were created some time ago, so maybe there is a versioning issue going on here, but really, Acrobat Reader should be able to open documents made with older versions anyway.

Having said all that, the PDFs are not vital to the course: as long as you can get the other course documents, which are used to actually create the site, you are fine.
