Issues with RC4, AKA beta11

  1. 1. Whenever I open SM, the lower half of my right-hand window pane is occupied by a preview. I always reduce the preview to zero. And, yet, it always returns when I relaunch StyleMaster. I never want to see the preview. How do I set this condition to TRUE?

    2. I cannot seem to select and drag. I highlight text and try to drag and it does not. This is a show stopper for me. Every other piece of software allows me to select and drag. How do I make this work? CSSEdit works the way I want it to.

    3. Path names seem "Windows-like". When I open StyleMaster and choose "open recent", I see paths of the form: Daves_Disk01:Users:DaveBarnes:...
This is frightening to me as this is same behavior as Dreamweaver. And, whenever, I change the name of my internal disk, DW croaks. CSSEdit just shows the name of the file. What will happen with SM if I change the name of my internal drive?

    Hi Dave,

    1. thanks for spotting that - SM should remember your window splits! I'll fix it right away (it remembers the horizontal split, but not the vertical)

    2. For now drag is sadly off for now. There's a bug in the text engine we use, which means D&D is thoroughly broken sadly - I'm hoping that we can get that fixed asap.

    3. I'll fix those path names. The reason we don;t just use a single name is that people OFTEN use th esame file names (e.g. index.html ;-)

If the HD name changes, then these paths will currently break, but only for previewing purposes. We could use aliases, but that's likely overkill for the rather rare situation where folks change their HD name. But will definitely track this!

thanks as always Dave, you keep us on our toes ;-)

  3. Another problem.

I select some text and then attempt to type to replace it and find that nothing happens. I have to select the text again.

So, every time I want to change text, I have to select the current text twice. Only one person in the world thinks that this is acceptable (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Vincent_Twice).

    Hi Dave,

when you select the text, are you doing so in the text fielf, or in the list of selectors? Or doesn;t it matter?

    Thanks

  5. In the text field.
I hardly ever use the list of selectors.

    Dave,

    most peculiar,

is this after clicking in the design pane? or immediately after simply selecting text?

I can't reproduce that here, so any details (editors open etc) very helpful!

    thanks

  7. How's things going with SM5 then John? It's been a little while since the last update, so I fear some ugly bugs emerged!

Any idea when we can expect the next beta?

    Hi Robo,

the good news - no great show stoppers. Sadly, the answer is more prosaic. All the final little bits and pieces for a release - from spell checking, to checking all the links in documentation, etc etc, takes more time than you might imagine!

There's one or two essentially cosmetic but annoying things I'd like to fix, particularly the problems of Safari caching, that we are working on.

Apologies to keep folks waiting still - not long now

  9. No problem, considering how far the program has come, it would be a shame to release anything less than perfect at this point. Looking forward to the finished product :)
